Aposento-Aposento (2014)

Fast, intense and brutal death, with a vocalist singing in spanish who tries to sound like Cannibal Corpse. I wouldn't go so far as to say that this is the best album of 2014 but it's a contender. Perfect riffs and drumming, this is a valient effort and they play brutal as fuck. Extremely impressive!!

Novembers Doom-Bled White (2014)

Extreme, crushing, depressing heaviness. This goes well beyond what's normally thought of as Death/Doom Metal, into some uncharted depths of soul-numbing despair, normally the word "brutal" is associate with insane blasting and intensity, but this powerful cd is more brutal and more intense than any speedfest you care to name. I don't know how the do it, so many years in the scene and still making killer music. I could not possibly recommens this masterpiece enough. Very impressive!

Expain-Just The Tip (2014)

Well. Expain from Canada have put together 10 very well written, catchy songs of melodic Thrash Metal. It's not bad, and certainly has some good Death metal parts as well, brutal riffs, insane blasting and raw vocals, so i'll have to wait and hear what they do next. Their progressive influences is something cool and accurate as they could be, the playing is impressive, sometimes very much so. The super thick production is great too and a good idea. Somebody tell me why these guys aren't signed? Oh, i remember now this ain't a perfect world!!

Feed The Rhino-The Sorrow And The Sound (2014)

It seems somewhat influenced by current trends, but it's a real chore to listen to, and it's extremely irritating. The vocal patterns have little or nothing to do with the riffs and drums, which doesn't exactly make a memorable album. These dudes can certainly play their instruments, but all these start-stop riffs are just lame! And apparentely that's the only kind of riffs they know how to write. Maybe for the young audience this is the real deal but definitely not for me. No Thanks!

Valence-Laser Baron (Ep-2014)

Ha, this is the real deal, totally instrumental mania! Valence from New York brings this cool Ep featuring 3 songs of amazing musicianship, in the vein of Cynic, Dreamtheater, and why not i dare to say Atheist as well, while having a traditional sound they still sound fresh mixing their progressive-jazz sounding, and maybe even original too. But who cares about originality as long as it kicks ass as hard as this. Valence takes it to the next level, there's lots of heavy and melodic riffs and killer tempos. I really can't wait for their full-lenght. Everyone into some seriously instrumental music should pick this up. It's cool to hear some bands still playing this kind of stuff. This band has a lot of diversity which will surely torch your mind. Amazing!!

Warfield-Trivmvirat (Ep 2013)

Intense and fast Black Metal from Mexico. Certainly nothing new, but the thicker production and tempo alterations go a long way towards making this a unique experience with their raspy vocal style, other than that, things are pretty good in the mixing and recording areas. It's hard to make an accurate judgement off of these 4 songs. I'd like to hear what they could do with a full-lenght, and a little more time to polish up the rough ends!

Garoted-Visions Of Death And Destruction (Cassette-2014)

This is fast Death Metal, and very nice played at that. The music is certainly relentless, definitely they earned more experience releasing this cassette, their metal onslaught has never sounded better than it does on this killer release. The production is thick and massively heavy, but you can still hear everything that's going on. The title "Visions of death and Destruction" proves that Death Metal is demonically brutal and it can be memorable as well!

Miserable Failure-Hope (Limited Edition Cassette)

HOLY FUCK?! Have I died and gone to Grindcore heaven? No, but I might as well say that Miserable Failure have gave me HOPE! (pun fully intended)
Blue Prints of Self Disgust proves to be a sonic assault on the ears with enough grind your fucking face off mayhem to make Nasum shit themselves! A total display of aggression and music merging to create an ingenious blend of "anti-music" with full frontal drums blasting! Track two continues in this exact vibe, One More reason to Set the World On Fire is nothing short of how must acne-faced grindcore teens try to sound when they pick up an instrument for the first time. Nothing here is lost on me, I totally understand this band. These guys are that new band I was looking and waiting for! The last two Tracks on the E.P "Goodbye and Good Riddance" and "This World Aint Mine" really showcase their exact motto..."Out of Nowhere, going nowhere... we are nobody, we're walking among you but we are not your kind. Our music is our history."I fucking love these guys, they have it nailed. And you know that saying, "If it aint broke don't fix it".I guess what makes them unique though is the more crossover style vocals by Bleu matched in ferocity by Rom “ Maldito ” Sanchez who plays guitar and bellows the growls. These guys are the most original grindcore band I have heard in a long time. It will be interesting to see where they go next!!!

Tyrants Blood-Coven (2014)

Tyrants Blood are an "Extreme Speed metal" band from Vancouver.Since their inception in 2005 they have attracted black metaler's and thrashers alike with their unique blend of both genre's meeting on the tip of post 80's Death metal.Coven is a powerful display of neatly packaged noise, dressed in napalm and studded in chains.However...They are by no means a one trick pony, they excel in their field by having the ability to break down into a trance type form while maintaining their "I will fuck your mother with a chainsaw" vibe. The key is great musicianship with powerful riffs and blasting drums. The opening track "Slaine the Bezerker" is a relentless start to a brutal no holds barred album. There is nothing less than sledge hammer heavy here.I already know exactly what kind of band they are by the very presence of the first second of the first track. The second track: Slithering Into Exile showcases that great musicianship I spoke of with an elegant yet morbid clean guitar intro which progresses into a planting wrecking ball of hate.If it is great drumming you want to hear though look no further than track sevens flawless drum intro.Riddle of Flesh has that blast beat splatter-carnage that you miss in modern Napalm Death!!!!But for me personally the strongest track is "Deceiver" which is the album closer. this has more of a raw Venom vibe that is lost on a lot of bands, Tyrants Blood have done no wrong in this album as far as I can hear anyway.I will be keeping an eye on them.

Dying Eyes Of Sloth-Book Of Blood (Ep/2013)

This is no nonsense, straight ahead Death Metal. Absolutely brutal from beginning to end, these guys from new jersey know how to keep the aggression at maximum without letting it overpower the riff. Of special note Jay P. Death uses a 7 string guitar, this is pure, balls-out agression. For truly intense, ass kicking Metal, look no further. The playing is good, the 4 songs are all pretty catchy, and are furiously energetic!

Hammeright-Chug Of War (2013)

The guys in Hammerfight seems to have gained a notable reputation and as this new album will prove once and for all, for obvious reasons. A high octane, full throttle mixture of Thrash Metal and even Rock n' Roll cold cheap and disconnected is bound to make you turn the volume to ten (or eleven), very much in the American way actually. Great skills and musicianship makes this album a feast for those who hunger to get in the mosh-pit and bang their heads like maniacs. This is fuckin' intense, to say it at least. INTERVIEW WITH KOBRA PAIGE OF KOBRA AND THE LOTUS

Kobra and the Lotus was formed by classical singer Kobra Paige with guitarists Matt Van Wezel and Chris Swenson, in summer 2009 were approached by Metal Hammer to include Kobra Paige in the 2010 Metal Hammer Maidens of Metal Calendar. After an extensive 2010 Canadian tour Kobra and the Lotus held an open audition. The 2010 tour also had a profound effect on the vocals of lead singer Paige. In 2011 Kobra Paige legally changed her name from Brittany Paige to Kobra Paige. Here's a brief interview with her.

1-Hello and Thank you for taking your time answering this interview for Soulgrinder Zine. What are your expectations concerning the forthcoming album? Can you say something about the general idea? What was your inspiration? What is this revolution about? What are you fighting for?
And thank you for having me! I try very hard not to have any expectations regarding how people will receive the music other than hoping it makes people feel something, be moved somehow, no matter whether it's good or bad. (but hopefully mostly good! haha). Overall, I'm very happy with the album. Now is the time to share it and let the world decide what they think. I can't wait to find out! There are many different stories and themes in this album. The themes range from “micro” glimmer’s of hope in a time when you can't see a way through tunnels of despair, to political oppression, benevolence, honouring and remembering those that have fought for our freedom, being the root as well as the solution to the problems within humanity, to the ways of “Bushido” and honouring the selfless principles of the Samurai. ALSO... there may just be a Lord of the Rings reference or two.

2-How do the preparations for the tour look like?
Usually before a tour, a general set list will be prepared and then the members will come together about two weeks beforehand. We will then start locking in with each other and getting down to more of the specifics of fine tuning the show. Sometimes when the right tour comes along, however, we all have to be prepared to jump on the road at the drop of a hat. It's such a fast paced and volatile industry, we have to be prepared for anything.

3-How would you encourage a potential listener to get to know the band's creative output?
The best encouragement I could give is, to throw the disc in your car or headphones on a bike, turn it up, and rip around. Then just listen with an open mind and without thinking too hard. See how the pulse of the music affects you first...then later listen for detail. I think we forget about the heartbeat inside music sometimes by first over-thinking it. We need to remember to connect to the whole sound.

4-Is your popularity growing equally all over the world?
No, there are regions that have caught on a lot quicker than others and there are also many territories we have yet to venture into. This very much excites me because it shows how much work there is to do...endless...we literally will have to keep metal 'n rollin’ until the day we die...probably on stage still playing a show. It’s what we love to do so the prospect of continuing the build out is exciting.

5-Are there any singers you’d like to cooperate with? Can we expect that in the future?
Yes I would really love to sing something with Joey belladonna. I just toured with him and what an incredible voice! Otherwise, I have a collaboration list that is about a kilometre long. There are so many incredible artists in the world.

6-What’s the secret behind been together as a band?
RESPECT

7-For those who haven’t heard Kobra and the Lotus yet, what is it all about? Can you describe the band's sound in few words?
I sure can, Heavy Metal. :D

8-What about the name of the band? Does it have any special meaning?
Yes, fierce beauty. Metal is an intricate, beautiful, beast of music. It has the capacity to remain through the ages without dying because it's fans are unbelievably loyal. The lotus is a stunning flower that rises out of the mud and the mighty cobra stands behind humanity and defends it.

9-Do you want to reach larger audience or only particular group of fans?
Definitely a larger audience. We want to create music that is for everyone.

10-Do you read reviews of your releases? Do they influence you in any way? Have you read any reviews of Kobra and the Lotus? What’s your standpoint?
I rarely read reviews. However, sometimes I'm inclined to read reviews where I value the critic’s opinions; It’s there that I can look for constructive criticism. I have found this to be beneficial in the past. Otherwise, I just keep focused on aiming for the high bar that will and should never be reachable.

11-Now about concerts. The best concert you have ever played is....
Oh man this is an impossible answer. We have had amazing experiences in many different places. One that will always stick out in my mind was our first support slot opening for Judas Priest because it was such an incredible honour. Painkiller was the reason I fell in love with metal in the first place.

12-How do you prepare yourselves for playing a concert? How do you spend the last few minutes before going out on stage?
Everyone has their own rituals, mine happens to be pacing. I get so riled up and excited, I usually have to storm around backstage for twenty minutes.

13-This is all have for now, thanks for your time and keep up the good work. Good luck. Do you want to say something to your fans and readers of Soulgrinder Zine? Any words to sum up?
Thank you so very much Paul for having me! I feel so grateful every day to be doing what I love and it would not be possible without the support of webzines like you and all of the incredible metal fans. This genre is like a big pumping heart and the fans are really what keep’s it alive. Without them, there are no believers, no defenders of the faith and no shared heavy metal experiences. Could you imagine a world without heavy metal? No way!! Thank you all from the bottom of my metal heart. HORNZ!!

Suffer In Silence-Behind The Truth (2014)

A solo man project, this is black/death/thrash coming out of Italy. This guy plays technical stuff, the guitars are totally fast thrash sounding, the vocals are real deep black/death metal growling vocals, for one guy this production is a little rough but it's easy to tell this guy is dedicated to Metal. To be honest, Metal is all about playing in a band and crush everything in the path, but i guess Patrick doesn't need a band to play extreme metal. The vocals are a mixture of harsh thrashing type vocals with melodic solos too. This is fkn interesting, a very good release, a great presentation of the cassette.
